Today, IPDR participated in a meeting organised by the Indigenous Youth Network in Nakuru, bringing together stakeholders to discuss the need to move away from colonial funding models towards more inclusive, participatory, and community-driven approaches to development.
During the meeting, our CEO, Mr. Akileng, reiterated the importance of abandoning top-down approaches that often exclude the very communities that development initiatives are intended to serve. He emphasised that Indigenous communities and other targeted beneficiaries must be actively involved in identifying their priorities, shaping interventions, and making decisions that affect their lives.
For development initiatives to achieve maximum impact, funding models must recognise the knowledge, experiences, voices, and aspirations of the people on the ground. Communities should not merely be recipients of funding but active partners in designing, implementing, and evaluating programmes that affect them.
